It’s feels wrong to be relying on a rider I rate to perform badly for my position in the table. I hope his form improves. Rins too. I love lame ducks, me. Whilst I’m on, it’s only right that I apologise for doubting Marquez prospects of a win at the ‘ring. I could argue that it was other riders focussing on the championship and/or not wanting to risk taking him out that let him have a relatively free run. But I won’t, he was outstanding, I was wrong and I hold my hands up.

Prior to the race I commented that Marquez's red mist problem might derail him. But there's no red mist whan you check out early and have the track to yourself! I have never liked or rooted for Marc, although I respect his amazing talents, but I am impressed today. As the white flag came out he put the hammer down when his pursuers hesitated--that was the win. David, you called it.

And Maverick...I am almost embarassed to have his name up on my line on the standings! Vinales and Rins only had to simply grow up and let their natural talent take over. That was my reasoning, anyway. At least Rins looks salvageable, but MV is in freefall.

... I feeling like I'm in with a good shot for the rest of the season.

The downside is that if the Marc is back for good, it'll be a less than entertaining season / few years. One of the few things I've enjoyed while under Covid house arrest for the last 18 months is the racing. It's been close and utterly unpredictable. I mean him no ill-will but I do hope it stays that way and we're not in for a repeat of the recent pre-covid seasons.

Lost in the Marquez hoopla was a comeback ride for the ages by Bagnaia - an absurd amount of overtakes at a track where overtaking is allegedly impossible.  He will end this season as the top Ducati and is my dark horse pick for the championship.

My big question has to do with Vinales and Rins, two factory riders that are coming under lots of pressure.  Morbedelli is stranded on an old bike.  He has to be angling for one of those seats, and, if I were Suzuki, that's who I would be after.  Vinales is like the Bottas of MotoGP - a solid rider who's fast on his day, but generally nowhere when it's not.
