2022 Motegi Moto2 FP2 Result: Aldeguer Advances On Soaked Surface

By Zara Daniela | Sat, 24/09/2022 - 01:56

After the downpour on Saturday morning, conditions continued to worsen throughout the final practice session for the intermediate class, but that did not fully halt progress on the timesheets. While Friday’s hierarchy was never under threat, the lead in FP2 changed hands a few times, until it stayed with Fermín Aldeguer for the final couple of minutes. Tony Arbolino dropped to second after a hairy moment late on, while Aron Canet settled for third and retreated to pitlane before the end of the session to prepare for Q1.

Filip Salac had a roller coaster of a morning, starting at the top of the timing screens and ending in the gravel at turn four, while holding onto fourth position. Jake Dixon completed the top five ahead of teammate Albert Arenas, while Alonso Lopez was able to rejoin the action after an early tumble at turn five and maintain seventh place. Somkiat Chantra, Augusto Fernandez and Jorge Navarro rounded out the top 10 places, while Ai Ogura joined the rather lengthy crash list with a a high side at turn 8 in the final couple of minutes.

The session even featured a brief red flag interruption, to allow Manuel Gonzalez’s bike to be removed from the track following an early tumble but the tricky session ultimately made no difference to the configuration of Q1, with the likes of Canet, Jeremy Alcoba, Marcel Schrotter and Celestino Vietti getting some extra track time on Saturday afternoon.
