2021 Jerez Moto2 Dunlop Test Times - Tricky Conditions See Vietti Fastest As Rookies Make Debut

Mist and rain dogged the Moto2 class at Jerez as they took to the track for a private test, with assistance from Dunlop to test tires ahead of the 2022 season. Poor conditions made it hard to read anything into the times, Celestino Vietti's fastest time four tenths off the race lap record at the track and over a second slower than the outright lap record, both set earlier this year at the Jerez Grand Prix.

The most interesting part of the test was the fact that so many rookies got their first taste of Moto2 machinery. Filip Salac was the quickest of the Moto3 graduates, the Gresini rider eighth quickest over all, eight tenths off the time of Vietti. Gabriel Rodrigo was twlfth, just ahead of Moto3 champion Pedro Acosta, the pair just under 1.2 seconds slower than Vietti. Nico Antonelli was sixteenth fastest, while Zonta van den Goorbergh brought up the rear, just ahead of Jeremy Alcoba in 22nd.

MotoAmerica Supersport champion Sean Dylan Kelly made a strong start to his Moto2 career, ninth fastest just a second off the time of Vietti, while MotoE transferee Alessandro Zaccone was tenth quickest.

The day ended badly for Jorge Navarro, the Spaniard crashing and fracturing the malleolus in his left ankle.
