MotoE closed a rainy day 1 in Misano and Miquel Pons made the best of pretty poor conditions to lead the way in the second practice session. Jordi Torres was once again second best, almost four tenths of a second behind the leader, while teenage sensation Fermin Aldeguer joined his compatriots in the top 3.

Lukas Tulovic took fourth, one second off top spot and closely followed by FP1 leader Eric Granado. Yonny Hernandez, Xavi Cardelus and title leader Alessandro Zaccone also ended the session within two seconds of the lead, while Hikari Okubo and Matteo Ferrari rounded out the top 10 positions. Dominique Aegerter dropped to 11th despite leading the way early on, 2.3 seconds off Pons.

2021 Misano Moto2 FP2 Results: Bezzecchi Tops Wet Session

The only sunshine that the intermediate class got to enjoy on Friday in Misano was a few rays breaking through the cloud cover but making no impact on the soaking wet track surface. Rainy FP2 didn’t see many improvers compared to FP1 and Tom Luthi’s morning benchmark stood at the end of the day, with many of the same actors towards the top in both sessions. Marco Bezzecchi did manage to claim the second practice session by a tenth of a second from Augusto Fernandez, with Somkiat Chantra joining the top 3 despite a pretty big crash on his final flying lap.

Xavi Vierge also looked good in the challenging conditions, climbing up to fourth, half a second off the lead and another tenth ahead of Sam Lowes. Nicolo Bulega kept close in sixth with Hafizh Syahrin predictably towards the top end, while Joe Roberts, Stefano Manzi and Jake Dixon completed the top 10. Barry Baltus, Tom Luthi, Jorge Navarro and Fabio Di Giannantonio hold the final positions in the combined top 14, all four over a second slower than Bezzecchi. Meanwhile, Remy Gardner and Raul Fernandez seemed to have taken a more cautious approach, both riders ending the day outside of the top 20 and around a second and a half behind the leader.

2021 Misano MotoGP FP2 Results: Zarco Fast In The Wet

The premier class did not have an easy afternoon, with rain arriving once more just ahead of FP2, so they stood no chance of changing the top 10 configuration from the morning session. Given the moody forecast, riders were keen to put in a solid run on rain tyres and some of the names you’d expect were towards the top end of the timesheets. The Ducatis seemed to be enjoying the ride the most, Johann Zarco taking top spot away from Pecco Bagnaia in the final couple of laps, with Jack Miller dropping to third after leading for much of the session. Joan Mir was their first challenger, the world champion climbing up to fourth, ahead of rain aficionado Marc Marquez.

Miguel Oliveira made a late jump into the top 6 but over a second slower than the leader, with Danilo Petrucci obviously in his element in the difficult conditions and stepping up to seventh position. Aleix Espargaro was the sole Aprilia in the top 10, ahead of Iker Lecuona, who had made a fast start in soaking wet conditions but his progress was then halted by a big crash at turn 1. Alex Marquez rounded out the top 10 places in the session ahead of Alex Rins and wildcard Michele Pirro.

The returning Franco Morbidelli was the lead Yamaha but down in 13th place, 1.7 seconds off top spot and four tenths quicker than teammate Fabio Quartararo. The Frenchman ended the day down in 18th position, right behind Maverick Vinales, although the new Aprilia signing kept top spot on the combined standings with his dry FP1 time.

2021 Misano Moto3 FP2 Results: Foggia Beats The Rain

After the rainy intermission in the morning sessions, conditions had improved significantly by the time the lightweight class was back in action but riders were in little rush to improve the FP1 benchmark. However, by the time the shootout got started in the final handful of minutes, the downpour was back and not all the riders hoping to make a big move in the top 14 managed to do so in time. That wasn’t a worry for Dennis Foggia, the Italian topping both sessions to lead the way on Friday, although Pedro Acosta made a late attack to get within a hundredth of a second. Niccolo Antonelli, Romano Fenati and Andrea Migno completed the top 5 on home soil, the trio only a tenth of a second off top spot.

Matteo Bertelle truly enjoyed his first day in Misano, only three tenths off the leader, provisionally in Q2 and ahead of the more experienced Petronas duo of John McPhee and Darryn Binder. The South African led the way early in the session but a big crash at the final corner meant that he missed out on the final half of the session. Filip Salac and Jaume Masia completed the top 10, followed by Deniz Oncu and Izan Guevara. Tatsuki Suzuki and Xavier Artigas also kept their positions in the combined top 14, despite not improving their lap times in FP2.

2021 Catalunya World Supersport FP1 Result: Oettl Tops Red Flagged Session

Philipp Oettl set the morning's fastest time in a session split by a red flag with Randy Krummenacher and Manuel Gonzalez swapping the top spot before Oettl nailed it down. Krummenacher's return to the top of the table was assisted by his sitting in for Luca Bernardi on a bike that he could use. Raffaele De Rosa pipped Gonzalez for third place at the end of the session.

Championship Leader Dominique Aegerter is competing in the MotoE championship this weekend and won't race in World Supersport.

2021 Misano Moto2 FP1 Result: Luthi In The Limelight

The intermediate class’s first outing in Misano was well wet and the Dunlop rain tyres got some proper airtime. So did Marco Bezzecchi, the Italian thriving in the tricky conditions and enjoying an advantage of over half a second at times, but as conditions improved, he got demoted by Tom Luthi. The class veteran ended the morning almost three tenths quicker than Bezzecchi, with Nicolò Bulega a welcome addition to the top three. Jake Dixon returns to Moto2 after his premier class adventure and was right back up to speed in fourth place, despite a late tumble at turn four, with compatriot Sam Lowes joining him in the top five, half a second off top spot.

Somkiat Chantra in sixth place was seven tenths off the leader’s time and closely followed by Augusto Fernandez, who was the other man caught out at turn four in the final few minutes of the session, when the sun finally broke through. Stefano Manzi, Jorge Navarro and Xavi Vierge completed the top 10 positions, with Hector Garzo, Joe Roberts, Aron Canet and Marcel Schrotter in the provisional top 14.

The title contending teammates had a slower and perhaps more cautious start in the given conditions, with Remy Gardner steadily slipping down the timesheets throughout the session to finish 22nd, while Raul Fernandez’s recent injury, reduced running and limited experience in the wet contributed to him ending the morning in 29th position, over three seconds behind the leader.

2021 Misano MotoGP FP1 Result: Viñales Quickest Before Downpour

The premier class had a tricky start in Misano, FP1 starting dry but with the cloud cover becoming menacingly grey and ending in a downpour for the final dozen minutes of the session. Although the session was cut short and not many were tempted to go out on rain tyres, it was great timing for Maverick Viñales, the new Aprilia recruit impressively putting his name at the top of the timesheets just before the rain arrived, aided by a recent test in Misano. Joan Mir was one of the few men who did some laps on the soaking track and his dry track time was good enough for second, eight hundredths of a second slower than the Aprilia. Pecco Bagnaia was one of the early leaders of the session but got demoted to third after his bike refused to rejoin the action for the second half of the session and the rain arrived once he did rejoin. Teammate Jack Miller joined him in fourth, with Alex Rins rounding out the top five.

Fabio Quartararo got stuck in a Repsol Honda sandwich in FP1, in between Pol Espargaro in 6th place and wildcard Stefan Bradl in 8th, closely followed by Marc Marquez, the Spaniard also having a play on rain tyres. Aprilia bookended the top 10, with Aleix Espargaro dropping to 10th, four tenths of a second behind his teammate. Johann Zarco missed out on the top 10 despite being within half a second of the leader, while the reshuffled Yamaha line-up was still getting up to speed, with Franco Morbidelli returning from injury in 16th position and the novel sight of Andrea Dovizioso in turquoise down in final place while he got reacquainted with the Yamaha.
