After a damp warmup this morning, the race was declared a wet race. Ten laps of the longest circuit on the calendar would determine the grid positions for the full length race this afternoon. Tyre selection was being made on the grid between wet and intermediate tyres.
Scott Redding took the hole shot but went wide, but he retook the lead out of turn two. After tentative shuffling, Rea and Redding swapped around enough to let Alex Lowes pass the pair. After a lap, Redding had the lead as the Kawasakis fought for second place, with Rea in front.
Scott Redding overcooked turn two, letting Jonathan Rea close the gap. Redding on the wet tyre had different lines to the Kawasakis on intermediate tyres. Alex Lowes passed Redding as Rea set the fastest lap.
In fourth place, Chaz Davies, also on intermediate tyres, broke free of the battle with Tom Sykes and Garrett Gerloff and closed up to Redding, passing him on lap three. Gerloff passed Redding and was the second-quickest rider on the track.
A couple of seconds behind Scott Redding, Toprak Razgatlioglu held off Alvaro Bautista and Michael van der Mark, in a close fight. Nearer the front, Gerloff caught Davies and started making attempts to pass him, passing him into the last corners on a tighter line than looked possible under Davies. Lap four, Jonathan Rea set the fastest lap again, with the first 1'58 lap of the race.
Michael van der Mark, gambling on an SCX rear tyre, passed Toprak Razgatlioglu and Scott Redding to take fifth place nearly six seconds behind Chaz Davies.
At half race distance, Jonathan Rea had a five second lead over his teammate Alex Lowes who was a second and a half ahead of Garrett Gerloff and Chaz Davies with Michael van der Mark five seconds further back. Van der Mark set the fastest lap as Scott Redding dropped back when Toprak Razgatlioglu pushed him wide and was followed by Alvaro Bautista.
Lap seven and Garrett Gerloff set the fastest lap under a second behind Alex Lowes, but van der Mark then beat it a few seconds later, his tyre choice paying off albeit a little late late. Garrett Gerloff took the fastest lap back with two laps left.
At the start of the last lap, Jonathan Rea and Alex Lowes set fastest laps only for Michael van der Mark to beat the pair of them, over a second faster than fourth-placed Chaz Davies ahead of him, but nearly three seconds behind him.
Jonathan Rea took the win and pole position for the last race of the weekend, with his teammate Alex Lowes second again, ahead of a delighted Garrett Gerloff whose last-minute change to intermediate tyres after the sighting lap paid off. Chaz Davies headed the second row alongside Michael van der Mark and Toprak Razgatlioglu. Alvaro Bautista captained the third row with a visibly frustrated Scott Redding regretting his tyre choice in eighth-place. Yamaha's Kohta Nozane rounded out the top nine.
Jonathan Rea holds an eight point lead in the championship over Alex Lowes and seventeen points more than Toprak Razgatlioglu. Chaz Davies is the top independent rider and top Ducati, two points ahead of fifth-placed Scott Redding.
