2021 Aragon World Superbike Superpole Result: Quick Enough For You?

World Superbike Superpole is shorter than last year, with fifteen minutes to set a fast lap, and would open with the fastest times of the weekend.

Jonathan Rea was the first rider to set a target time of 1'49.314, the fastest of the weekend, but Alex Lowes immediately took the top spot from him with a 1'48.890. After setting two lap times, most riders popped in for a cuppa and a new tyre, only now fitting the qualifying tyre to set their best times. Garrett Gerloff was third quickest, ahead of Chaz Davies and Alvaro Bautista, before the faster tyres left their mark.

Chaz Davies headed out early on his "it's not red" Ducati ahead of everyone but Jonas Folger. Davies ticked off the first sector on pace for the quickest lap of the session, but Scott Redding on the official Ducati was quicker still, and Redding didn't show any signs of slowing down. Davies ut himself into second place, but Scott Redding nicked it with a 1'48.733. Tom Sykes couldn't beat it, slipping into what was now second place, but six time world champion Jonathan Rea knocked everyone down a spot with a 1'48.458 that was over a quarter of a second quicker than Redding and three tenths quicker than his outright qualifying record from last year.

Jonathan Rea opens his championship defence with a pole position on his not-upgraded-enough-for-new-rev-limits Kawasaki, ahead of his chief challenger Ducati's Scott Redding. Saturday's Tom Sykes gets BMW the press he's there for in third place, rounding out the front row of the grid.

Alex Lowes heads the second row ahead of Chaz Davies and Garrett Gerloff, with the Honda pair of Leon Haslam and Alvaro Bautista holding off Michael Ruben Rinaldi for row three. Toprak Razgatlioglu was knocked down to tenth place for exceeding track limits at turn fifteen, giving Gerloff the quickest Yamaha honours.
