2021 Jerez Moto3 FP3 Result: Migno Sets Lap Record

Saturday morning brought perfect track conditions for the lightweight class and after the initial enthusiasm led to some mild tumbles early on, riders turned their focus on the battle for Q2 positions. No harm was done at the top of the combined practice times until the final shoot-out, when Deniz Öncü made the first move but it was Andrea Migno who went on to grab the all time lap record, leaving the young Turkish rider over half a second behind. To make it every worse, Öncü also finished the session in the gravel trap at turn nine, after getting caught up in Sergio Garcia’s crash. John McPhee and teammate Darryn Binder closely followed the leaders, with Filip Salac completing the top five.

Jaume Masia briefly held the lead of the session before dropping to sixth position, ahead of rookie Xavier Artigas. Tatsuki Suzuki in eighth place was one whole second slower than the leader, while Friday fast man Gabriel Rodrigo was one of the few riders not to go any faster on Saturday morning, but his FP2 time was enough to keep him fourth on the combined standings, while ninth in the session. Ayumu Sasaki rounded out the top ten, while the remaining Q2 spots were secured by Yuki Kunii, Jason Dupasquier, Niccolò Antonelli and Romano Fenati, although the Max Racing rider had very limited track time after some bike trouble at the beginning of the session and was saved by the time posted on Friday. The big surprise of FP3 was championship leader Pedro Acosta, who finished the session 16th and will have to take a trip through Q1.
