2021 Jerez Moto2 Qualifying Result: Another Day, Another Record

The qualifying session for the intermediate class was another occasion for the Red Bull KTM Ajo squad to celebrate, this time after watching Remy Gardner score his first pole position of the season to go alongside the all time lap record and the championship lead. The Australian will be defending that lead from prime position after setting a fantastic lap early in Q2 and although he did not improve further, he had no challenger either. The rest of the front row was decided early on as well, with compatriots Fabio Di Giannantonio and Marco Bezzecchi getting within a tenth of a second of pole.

Raul Fernandez threatened to change that hierarchy on his final flying lap but only advanced one position to fourth, demoting Sam Lowes to fifth. The British rider was on a red hot lap in the final minute of the session but a big moment at the final turn halted his progress and unsettled his final flying lap, causing him to crash out at turn 2. Xavi Vierge closes the second row of the grid, while compatriot Augusto Fernandez opens row three from Joe Roberts and rookie Ai Ogura.

Jake Dixon completed the top ten positions and will be joined on the fourth row by Spaniards Aron Canet and Jorge Navarro. Nicolò Bulega was the final rider to post a time within a second of pole and the Italian led the way for the Q1 foursome including Marcos Ramirez, Bo Bendsneyder and Q1 leader Cameron Beaubier. Stefano Manzi looked fast enough to comfortably make his way out of Q1 but oddly chose to sit out the second run and missed out by eight hundredths of a second, starting 19th on the grid.
