Qatar Moto2 Test Day 3 Results: Lowes Leads A Tight Top Three

Sam Lowes ends his preparation for the 2021 Moto2 season on a strong footing, the Marc VDS rider ending the final day of the test as fastest. But the competition was not far behind: Sky VR46 rider Marco Bezzecchi and Red Bull KTM Ajo's Remy Gardner were just one hundredth and five hundredths of a second behind Lowes.

Jake Dixon was fourth fastest on the final day, leading his Petronas Sprinta teammate Xavi Vierge by a few hundredths, while Bo Bendsneyder, now with the Mandalika SAG team, impressed with a sixth quickest time. Nicolo Bulega ended the day in seventh, ahead of impressive rookie Raul Fernandez on the other Red Bull KTM Ajo Kalex. The Inde Aspar Boscoscuro machnes of Albert Arenas and Aron Canet rounded out the top ten.

In contrast to the Moto3 class, there were a fair few riders who didn't improve their times on the final day of the test. Xavi Vierge's time from Saturday put him fourth fastest overall, just ahead of teammate Dixon. The Boscoscuro bikes of Canet and Navarro were quicker on Saturday, and sixth and seventh fastest overall.

Testing is now complete, and the riders now await the first real session of the 2021 season, which starts on Friday.

... faster than Joe Roberts and his own teammate. Seems to be adapting to the class just fine so far. Consecutive rounds at Qatar should help him gel with the bike and team more quickly than a normal season.

Raul and Augusto Fernendez are swapped in combined standings. Amazing how most of Moto3 guys have adapted to Moto2.

Also B.Bendsneyder shows his real strength on "Kalex" (although B.Baltus on NTS also has improved).

...VERY impressive! He's gotten faster w/each session. Gonna be an interesting year.

New bike, team, and ultra-competitive racing class. Only familiarities are the Dunlops and track recall when he competed in 125s back in 2009. Rumor has it that the guy passed on a big paycheck to come to Moto2. Wants to test himself against the world's best. I agree that the Qatar test and subsequent double header will help him begin to settle in to his new job. It's going to be a learning year, and yet he may surprise the paddock on occasion. Would be great if he left Qatar with some points. Go Cam!

I'm pretty sure reading/podcast somewhere where he confirmed he was taking a substantial paycut, let me see if I can find the source

Cam took a big pay cut to go to Moto2. John Hopkins was talking about this to the media when they signed Cam last November. In MotoAmerica, he was a 5 time champion riding a factory bike with lots of sponsorship. That's the top job. Good on him for chasing his dream. The guy has talent and drive. Give him some time to adjust to the ultra competitive Moto2 class and let's see what happens. I will be following him with interest this season.
