2021 Mugello Moto3 Qualifying Result: Better Early Than Late

After Mugello offered impeccable conditions for the circus’ return to Italy, a touch of grey coloured the sky ahead of the lightweight class’ qualifying session. It ultimately proved irrelevant but teams and riders still tried to gamble so Q2 was slow to get going, until Pedro Acosta opened the show, fresh off an eventful Q1. It was Gabriel Rodrigo who claimed provision pole after the first run of laps but half the pack was yet to post a timed lap until the final handful of minutes. Ultimately it was Q1 leader Tatsuki Suzuki who kept the pace up to claim pole position in Mugello by over half a second from the championship leader. Acosta wobbled his way through Q1 but managed to secure his first front row start of his rookie season to date, while Rodrigo got pushed back to third.

With many of the teams only joining the action for two flying laps, the strategy didn’t really pay off, especially as a scary incident involving Jason Dupasquier and Ayumu Sasaki prompted a red flag in the closing stages of Q2. However, Dennis Foggia seems to be getting his season back on track with fourth on the grid on home soil, ahead of Jaume Masia and Jeremy Alcoba on the second row. Romano Fenati opens row three, where he is joined by Niccolò Antonelli and John McPhee, while Sasaki and Dupasquier qualified on row four but the Swiss rider required medical assistance after their accident and his participation in tomorrow’s race looks uncertain.

FP3 leader Andrea Migno will not be particularly happy to see his name down in 17th position, behind Darryn Binder and ahead of teammate Filip Salac, but the Rivacold Snipers duo did not seem to get a proper flying lap in. Another notable mention goes to wildcard Alberto Surra, who missed out on Q2 by three tenths and is due to start the race in 19th grid spot.

2021 Estoril World Superbike Superpole Result: A Short Windy Track

Fifteen windy minutes would determine the grid positions for race one this afternoon and tomorrow morning's Superpole race. Riders generally spend the first half on a race tyre, usually the SCX rear tyre, and pit in for one last fast lap on the sticky qualifying tyre.

Tito Rabat joined the regular early starters Leon Haslam and Jonathan Rea, but it was Toprak Razgatlioglu who set the first benchmark time of 1'36.944 only to have it deleted for exceeding the track limits. Jonathan Rea set a 1'36.635 with Lucas Mahias a quarter of a second behind. Garrett Gerloff, Alex Lowes, Scott Redding and Eugene Laverty rounded out the top six as riders pitted in.

And relax, sit down, have a cuppa. Your new tyre will be ready shortly.

Scott Redding and Tito Rabat set out early, avoiding the rush, with Jonathan Rea joining them a minute later. Rabat's plan to get a tow from Scott Redding didn't work out as well as he would have liked with Redding setting a new record of 1'36.047. Jonathan Rea, without any traffic to distract him, set an even quicker 1'35.876. Alex Lowes was third quickest, holding off late charges from Toprak Razgatlioglu and Garrett Gerloff. Tom Sykes was sixth quickest. The third row was headed by Michael Ruben Rinaldi, ahead of Eugene Laverty and Lucas Mahias.

2021 Estoril World Supersport Superpole Result: A Familiar Name On Top

World Supersport Superpole qualifying was a windy twenty minute session. Nikki Tuuli would start race one from the pit lane due to his incident last weekend; his qualifying would be for grid position for Sunday's race.

Luca Bernardi opened the session with a 1'40.664, quicker than Jules Cluzel and Dominique Aegerter on the first timed lap. His time was beaten a lap later by Federico Caricasulo who set another fastest lap, a 1'40.192, on his third timed lap. Jules Cluzel and Steven Odendaal were second and third as most riders pitted in for a break, but Philipp Oettl stayed out for one more lap and sneaked in a second place, pushing Cluzel down a spot.

After a brief break, Federico Caricasulo put in a 1'39.973, having avoided traffic before setting up a clean run. At the flag, he was three thousandths of a second off his best time, and Steven Odendaal was the only rider on a lap that might challenge him.

Steven Odendaal lost out in the last sector, but still managed to get himself onto the front row, third placed alongside Federico Caricasulo and Philipp Oettl. Jules Cluzel, Dominique Aegerter and Raffaele de Rosa will start from the second row. Nikki Tuuli will start race two from seventh, but Hannes Soomer will sit on his grid spot in race one, ahead of Luca Bernardi.

2021 Mugello Moto2 FP3 Result: Fernandez Leads KTM Charge

The intermediate class got one final chance to secure a direct Q2 position and although Sam Lowes topped Friday’s action, he was in a rush to leave his mark on FP3 as well, imrpoving his own benchmark on only his second lap of the session. The British rider went on to set a new lap record and rival Raul Fernandez spend the rest of the session threatening that time. The rookie got the job done eventually and improved the old record by over half a second in the closing stages of FP3. Remy Gardner reduced the gap to his teammate to one tenth of a second, while Lowes was demoted to third.

Behind the standout trio, there was a half second gap to the next quickest man, Aron Canet claiming that honour despite a late tumble at turn 12. Home favourite Fabio Di Giannantonio completed the top five, closely followed by Marcel Schrotter and his rookie teammate Tony Arbolino. Joe Roberts and Xavi Vierge were the last riders to post a time within a second the leader, with Augusto Fernandez rounding out the top ten.

Jorge Navarro was the only rider who failed to go any quicker than Friday but his FP2 time was fast enough for 11th position overall, despite finishing FP3 in 16th place. A pretty anonymous Marco Bezzecchi was joined by Ai Ogura and Lorenzo Dalla Porta in the final Q2 positions, leaving the likes of Bo Bendsneyder and Marcos Ramirez to fight it out in Q1.

2021 Mugello MotoGP FP3 Result: Bagnaia Bags Another Home Run

Day 2 in Mugello for the premier class started even closer than it finished on Friday and even though Pecco Bagnaia kept prime position, he was one of the last riders to go faster than FP2. When he did, however, the Italian also claimed the all time lap record to start the morning a tenth or so quicker than championship leader Fabio Quartararo. In addition to the Ducati man, Brad Binder was the other rider a bit sluggish in finding time on Saturday morning but he turned it around in the final time attack to climb into an impressive third position.

Jack Miller and Johann Zarco completed the top five for Ducati, while Alex Rins made a late jump to sixth, having spent much of the session as the locomotive for Marc Marquez. Miguel Oliveira's seventh place ensured that both factory KTMs join Q2, with Joan Mir completing the Suzuki line-up as well. Pol Espargaro in ninth place was the sole Honda in a top 10 completed by Franco Morbidelli and covered by only four tenths of a second.

Maverick Viñales missed out on Q2 places by three hundredths of a second but a crash at turn 12 in the final couple of minutes was his undoing. Marc Marquez got some premium tows throughout the session and despite finishing down in 12th, the Spaniard was only half a second off top spot. Aleix Espargaro will also join his compatriots in Q1, as will Takaaki Nakagami and home hero Valentino Rossi, while Lorenzo Savadori in 19th position finished within a second of the leader.

2021 Mugello Moto3 FP3 Result: Migno Claims Lap Record

Another beautiful morning in Mugello brought another usual battle for the top 14 in the lightweight class, this time with a full 15 minutes dedicated to fresh rubber. After Sergio Garcia drew closer to the lap record on his first outing, it looked like Jaume Masia would claim the honour the second time around, but Andrea Migno was keen to keep the all time lap record in the home team and went a couple tenths faster than the previous benchmark. Masia had to settle for second, closely followed by Gabriel Rodrigo and Garcia.

Jason Dupasquier continues to impress, this time in fifth position and closely followed by Jeremy Alcoba, the Spaniard being the final rider to post a time within half a second of the leader. The rest of the top ten, comprised by Ayumu Sasaki, Stefano Nepa, John McPhee and Romano Fenati, was covered by one tenth of a second, while the top 17 riders finished within a second of top spot. Amongst them, however, only Deniz Öncü, Filip Salac, Dennis Foggia and Darryn Binder secured a ticket directly into Q2, the FP2 leader only 17th in the session but fast enough on Friday to ensure safe passage.

Championship leader Pedro Acosta briefly flirted with the top 14 but quickly got demoted to 16th on the combined standings and will enjoy another Q1 outing later today, together with the likes of Tatsuki Suzuki and Niccolò Antonelli.

2021 Estoril World Superbike FP2 Result: Razgatlioglu Quickest Again

In what's becoming a regular occurence, Toprak Razgatlioglu ended Friday on top of the timing sheets, with Scott Redding in second place after the red-flagged second session. Michael Ruben Rinaldi and Garrett Gerloff held off Jonathan Rea and Alex Lowes, neither of whom could improve on their morning's result. Kohta Nozane, bringing out the red flags, ended his day in the medical centre after a turn thirteen crash, but he has been declared fit for tomorrow.

2021 Mugello Moto2 FP2 Result: Lowes Tops After Roberts Tumbles

Sam Lowes closed Day 1 at Mugello by topping the second practice session, as well as the combined standings in the intermediate class, taking over top spot for the final five minutes of FP1. Until that moment, Raul Fernandez had led the way for much of the session, also adding an impressive save at San Donato to his rookie repertoire. After a low-key morning, Jorge Navarro climbed up to third, three tenths off the leader and another tenth ahead of home favourite Marco Bezzecchi. Tony Arbolino continues to impress in Mugello by keeping inside the top five of both sessions, ahead of compatriot Fabio Di Giannantonio.

Remy Gardner was one of the few riders whose FP2 session was a touch slower than FP1 but the championship leader stayed seventh in both the session and the combined times. Xavi Vierge, Joe Roberts and Marcel Schrotter completed a top ten covered by one second, although the American had limited track time after an early crash at turn three forced him to miss most of the session. However, his session-topping time from the morning kept him safely inside the combined top four. The rest of the provisional top 14 positions are held by Augusto Fernandez, Aron Canet, Somkiat Chantra and Hector Garzo.
