After so many laps on the grippy surface of the Misano circuit, the intermediate class keeps getting faster and faster, with championship leader Luca Marini improving the all time lap record at the checkered flag in FP2. While posting the only 1:35 time of the weekend, the home favourite was only nine hundredths of a second faster than rookie Aron Canet, who seemed to have learned a lot from a challenging first weekend in Misano. Marcel Schrotter picked up the lead early on and remained inside the top three despite a tumble in the final three minutes of the session.
Sam Lowes in fourth was only two tenths off the lead, while Joe Roberts joined the top five. Marco Bezzecchi headed out of the garage and straight to the top of the timesheets but suffered an early crash at turn six and struggled to improve once he rejoined the action. However, his early benchmark was enough for sixth place. Xavi Vierge was the final rider to post a time within half a second of Marini, with a decent gap keeping him ahead of Jorge Navarro and Jake Dixon.
Lorenzo Baldassarri completed the top ten in the session but it was not enough to sneak into direct Q2 spots just yet. The likes of Tom Luthi, Nicolo Bulega, Enea Bastianini, Tetsuta Nagashima and Hector Garzo did not spend much time in the limelight in FP2 but their FP1 times were good enough to keep them in the combined top 14.
