2020 Misano Moto2 Qualifying Result: Here But Not To Stay

Despite a handful of men showing fine speed throughout practice, qualifying was a bit of a different story, with Sam Lowes eager to make a point and set himself apart at the front of the timesheets. The British rider set a new lap record early in proceedings and allowed no rider to come any closer than two tenths of a second on his way to secure pole position. While Lowes does get to keep the nice watch and the corresponding seat in the press conference room, the penalty for his oopsie in Styria means that he will start the race from pitlane. That leaves Remy Gardner to inherit prime position on the grid, ahead of SKY Racing teammates and home favourites Luca Marini and Marco Bezzecchi. The latter might have hoped for more, had it not been for a late crash at the final corner.

Enea Bastianini will open the second row of the grid from Xavi Vierge and Marcel Schrotter, with Augusto Fernandez heading row three ahead of Tetsuta Nagashima and Q1 leader Fabio Di Giannantonio. Marcos Ramirez also made it through Q1 to climb on the fourth row of the grid together with class veteran Tom Luthi and Jorge Navarro, who did well to recover to 13th, after a crash halfway through Q2 left him last in the session.

The challenges of Q1 proved too much for the likes of Nicolo Bulega, who suffered a painful looking crash late in the session but was still best of the rest in 19th, ahead of compatriot Lorenzo Baldassarri, while a lacklustre Aron Canet dropped to 22nd position.
