A warm, familiar and freshly laid surface waited for the intermediate class riders in Misano and it was the usual contenders bidding for top spot straight out the gates. Looking for redemption after a controversial Sunday in Styria, Sam Lowes traded the lead with championship leader Luca Marini throughout the session and the British rider ended up on top. Marini made do with second, trailing the Marc VDS machine by two tenths of a second and another tenth ahead of teammate Marco Bezzecchi.
Marcel Schrotter climbed to fourth at the end of an eventful session including a small crash at turn 14. After a low key outing in Austria, Enea Bastianini found some more speed in Misano, leading very early on and finishing the session fifth. Rookie Aron Canet continues his progress at the business end, ahead of Tetsuta Nagashima. Nicolo Bulega enjoyed being back on home soil and joined the top ten together with Augusto Fernandez and with Lorenzo Baldassarri completing the top ten.
Jorge Martin is out of action after testing positive for Covid-19 before setting sail for Misano, giving a bit of a breather to his rivals in the title battle.
