MotoE riders closed the qualifying party in Andalucia in a slippery 60 degrees of track temperature but Dominique Aegerter made the best of a tough situation and scored his first pole position in the class. The rookie finished the session over a quarter of a second ahead of the next fastest man, reigning champion Matteo Ferrari. Lukas Tulovic was an early leader, with a seven tenths gap that seemed to have set the bar quite high and eventually secured him a front row start. It could have been a different story had Eric Granado not wobbled his way through turns 2 and 6 and dropped some tenths along the way. The world cup leader had to settle for fourth, opening the second row of the grid ahead of rookies Jordi Torres and Alejandro Medina.
Niki Tuuli, one of last season’s main actors, will miss Sunday’s race after picking up a wrist injury in a practice crash on Friday.
