The intermediate class closed the qualifying party in the Jerez sauna with the most significant move happening in the first half of Q2, when Jorge Martin climbed into top spot only two laps into the session and was never dislodged by the competition. The Spaniard claimed his first pole position in the intermediate class on home soil, ahead of compatriot Jorge Navarro. The Speed Up rider was a late improver and got within two tenths of a second of the lead, with Sam Lowes taking another step onto the front row of the grid.
Luca Marini could not replicate his performance from Friday and made do with opening the second row of the grid, ahead of teammate Marco Bezzecchi and Aron Canet. Marcel Schrotter lost a bit of steam since the morning session and slid down to seventh, joining the third row ahead of championship leader Tetsuta Nagashima and Q1 escapee Xavi Vierge. Lorenzo Baldassarri, Enea Bastianini and Remy Gardner took over row four.
Fabio Di Giannantonio was the star of Q1 but an early crash in Q2 left him with no chance at a second run while his machine was getting some fire extinguisher action and he dropped to 18th on the grid. Tom Luthi had a quieter session but perhaps too quiet, the Swiss rider best of the rest in Q1 and starting the race in 19th position.
