2020 Brno Moto2 FP2 Result: Bastianini Vs Lowes

The intermediate class provided the final action of the day in Brno and they went out with a bang or seven. The high temperatures and slippery surface saw quite a bit of commotion in various gravel traps around the track but Enea Bastianini emerged unscathed to top the FP2 timesheets. The Italian’s time was three hundredths of a second faster than Sam Lowes’ but the situation was reversed on the combined timesheets, where the Marc VDS rider was two tenths faster courtesy of his FP1 time.

Luca Marini was an early leader in FP2 before getting pushed back to third, while Jorge Navarro was pretty anonymous until climbing into fourth with the final time attack. Joe Roberts was fifth, although he was one of the few riders who failed to improve on their FP1 benchmarks, while Fabio Di Giannantonio continues his progress towards the top end of the timesheets with a sixth position. Marco Bezzecchi’s session was cut short by a late tumble at turn 10 but the SKY rider still secured seventh place. Remy Gardner, Stefano Manzi and Lorenzo Baldassarri rounded out the top ten, while the remaining provisional top 14 positions went to Marcel Schrotter, Nicolo Bulega, Tetsuta Nagashima and Augusto Fernandez.

2020 Brno MotoGP FP2 Result: Quartararo The Conqueror

A hot slippery surface greeted the premier class on their return to action in Brno and it made for some lively footage throughout FP2 but the outcome was a familiar one, namely Fabio Quartararo stealing the limelight from teammate Franco Morbidelli. The Frenchman shook his fists in anger every now and again but still ended the day seven thousandths of a second faster than the rest and with excellent race pace. Morbidelli briefly led the way before getting demoted but maintained second ahead of top KTM rider Miguel Oliveira.

Johann Zarco also showed his speed in the final time attack to climb into fourth as the top Ducati, while Maverick Vinales rounded out the top five, only a tenth and a half slower than the Petronas machines. Joan Mir was the early leader of the practice session but could not improve much more and dropped to sixth, ahead of the Espargaro family, Aleix leading Pol in a rather rare sight. FP1 leader Takaaki Nakagami could not quite replicate that achievement but secured a provisional top ten together with Jack Miller.

Despite being only seven tenths of a second off the leader, exceptional rookie Brad Binder missed out on top ten positions and will aim to snatch a direct Q2 ticket on Saturday morning, but the likes of Valentino Rossi, Alex Rins, Danilo Petrucci and Andrea Dovizioso will most likely have something to say about that. Unfortunately, one man who does not get a say is Pecco Bagnaia, the Italian missing FP2 while undergoing medical checks after a fast crash in FP1 and is likely to miss the rest of the weekend in Brno with a knee injury.

2020 Brno Moto3 FP2 Result: Fernandez Finds His Speed

A few hours later and the track got just hot enough to ensure that FP1 times were not at threat on the lightweight class’ second outing. Raul Fernandez asserted his authority early into the session and used the late time attack to secure top spot in FP2 by over two tenths of a second. Jaume Masia put his two morning crashes behind him and was the only rider to make a significant jump inside the combined top 14.

Romano Fenati in third was over half a second slower than the leader, with John McPhee a mere eight thousandths of a second behind the Italian. Sergio Garcia made a late jump into the top five and also secured a provisional top 14 position by improving his benchmark from the morning. Dennis Foggia and Tony Arbolino showed the way to FP1 leader Gabriel Rodrigo, while Tatsuki Suzuki improved his FP1 time to climb to 9th but it was not enough for provisional Q2 positions. Rookie Jeremy Alcoba rounded out the top ten but will also have to battle for a direct Q2 place on Saturday morning.

2020 Brno Moto2 FP1 Result: Lowes Gets A Gap

The intermediate class took their turn under the sensible sun of Brno and Sam Lowes was the rider to shine most, snatching the lead in the closing stages of FP1. The Marc VDS rider found over three tenths of a second on the opposition, which was led by a resurgent Joe Roberts, another of the men to show fine speed throughout the session. Tetsuta Nagashima joined the top three only seven hundredths of a second behind the American and was the last man within half a second of Lowes.

Augusto Fernandez is hinting at a bit of a comeback with his fourth place in FP1, ahead of Marcel Schrotter and early leader Stefano Manzi. Fresh off his maiden win in Andalucia, Enea Bastianini was back in the mix in seventh spot, with compatriots Lorenzo Baldassarri, Marco Bezzecchi and Fabio Di Giannantonio rounding out the top ten. Luca Marini and Remy Gardner were the last men to post a time within a second of the leader.

2020 Brno MotoGP FP1 Result: Nakagami Makes His Case

When the premier class rode their first laps on Friday morning, the warmth of Brno must have felt like an ice cave compared to Jerez a fortnight ago. Regardless, Takaaki Nakagami was in his element once again and put his name back at the top of the timesheets, helped by some fresh rubber at the end of FP1. Joan Mir followed his example and followed him in the hierarchy, only one hundredth of a second behind the leader.

Before the late time attack, Pol Espargaro had set camp in the lead of the session with a fine pace and maintained third place despite not being tempted by fresh rubber. Former teammate Johann Zarco trailled him by half a tenth, while Maverick Vinales joined the top five after becoming the first rider to be claimed by turn 13. Andrea Dovizioso and Danilo Petrucci finished in close quarters and less than three tenths of a second off the lead. Valentino Rossi and disciple Franco Morbidelli led Cal Crutchlow inside the remaining top ten positions.

Aleix Espargaro, Alex Rins and Fabio Quartararo missed out on top spots but were trailing the leader by under half a second, as were Jack Miller and Pecco Bagnaia, although the Pramac teammates had an eventful morning, with a fairly impressive save from the Australian at turn 13 and a fast late crash at turn 1 for Bagnaia. Brad Binder’s name also popped up at the business end but a couple of cancelled lap times dropped him back down to 16th position.

2020 Brno Moto3 FP1 Result: Rodrigo Returns

After the inescapable sauna of Andalucia, the championship moves to the more sensible temperatures of Brno at a familiar time of year. Perhaps a touch overconfident, the lightweight class opened the show with a handful of harmless crashes and ended with the familiar sight of Gabriel Rodrigo at the top of the timesheets. The Argentine rider continues to put his name in prime position in practice, this time one tenth of a second faster than early leader Kaito Toba.

Raul Fernandez made a fine start into the top three, closely followed by Dennis Foggia, while Ayumu Sasaki completed the top five but was over half a second slower than the foursome ahead. Tony Arbolino and Albert Arenas were just a touch slower than the Japanese rider, with John McPhee, Romano Fenati and Riccardo Rossi completing the top ten as the final men within a second of the leader.

The likes of Andrea Migno, Celestino Vietti or Niccolo Antonelli had a tame morning outside of the top 15, while Jaume Masia got demoted to 21st after suffering two crashes throughout the session. Andalucia victor Tatsuki Suzuki also had an early tumble that saw him end FP1 in 24th position.
