2019 Valencia Moto2 FP2 Result: Binder Means Business

Large clouds covered almost the entire circuit by the time the final practice session came around but the cool conditions did not make much of an impact on the intermediate class, almost all riders taking no time to improve on their FP1 times and sort out provisional Q2 positions. Brad Binder was back to regular scheduling, leading all the way throughout a session interspersed with wiggles and wobbles that didn’t stop the South African from setting a new all time lap record. Augusto Fernandez was back where he proved he belonged, at the business end of proceedings, although over half a second slower than the lonely leader. Fabio Di Giannantonio is pushing to secure Rookie of the Year and his third place in FP2 makes it look fairly routine, especially with rival Enea Bastianini down in 16th position.

Sam Lowes and Stefano Manzi completed the top five, with Tetsuta Nagashima, Jorge Navarro and Mattia Pasini also within seven tenths of a second of the leader. Tom Luthi made some progress since the morning and climbed to ninth, while Nicolo Bulega completed the top ten. The final top 14 positions were reserved for Marcel Schrotter, Luca Marini, Alex Marquez and Lorenzo Baldassarri. If FP3 proves to be as cold as predicted, then the likes of Jorge Martin, Bastianini, Andrea Locatelli, Xavi Vierge or Remy Gardner will have to fight it off in Q1.
