2019 Misano Moto2 FP1 Result: Nagashima Getting Comfortable In Top Spot

The intermediate class closed the FP1 show under bright sunshine and it was the usual names showcased at the top end. Championship leader Alex Marquez was the early leader, before Tetsuta Nagashima picked up the baton for the latter half of the session and despite some late cahllengers, the Japanese rider retrieved the lead to top the timesheets at the checkered flag.

Augusto Fernandez was best of the rest, eight hundredths of a second behind and with Remy Gardner joining a tight top three. Marco Bezzecchi made a late but very much welcome jump into fourth, ahead of compatriot Nicolo Bulega. Coming off his fresh contract for 2020, Xavi Vierge got a boost that got him as high as second in FP1, before dropping back to sixth. Lorenzo Baldassarri finished seventh, with Marquez demoted to eighth place, six tenths down on Nagashima. Tom Luthi and Sam Lowes rounded out the top ten, with top rookies Fabio Di Giannantonio and Enea Bastianini just missing out on top positions.

With the top 16 covered by one second, some high profile names found themselves unusually low on the timing screens, Jorge Navarro 13th, Mattia Pasini 15th and Marcel Schrotter 16th. Brad Binder did not yet feature in the story because the KTM man had a pretty big crash, shaking it like Beyonce out of turn 15 in the opening stages of FP1 and although he seemed largely unharmed, his machine was not ready for him to rejoin in time for a fast lap.
