The second race on the MotoE calendar had a surprise in store in the shape of a wet track caused by significant rain before the race. This packed the action into a reduced race distance of five laps and poleman Mike Di Meglio led on lap one, after Xavier Simeon had a quick look in turn one. The real challenge seemed to come from Eric Granado though, the Avintia racer making an electric start to go from ninth on the grid to first by lap two. However, Granado was the first victim of the day for the notorious turn 3 and left Di Meglio back into the lead.
The Frenchman was eight tenths of a second ahead of Hector Garzo but the Spaniard was quickly reducing the eight tenths gap to three tenths by the start of the final lap. The last lap battle looked promising but then Garzo went wide and crashed out at turn four, allowing Di Meglio to celebrate across the line. Simeon inherited second position, with Bradley Smith taking the final podium place after a race long battle with Alex De Angelis and Matteo Ferrari.
Niki Tuuli came into the second round leading the championship but the Finnish rider explored some gravel on lap one and dropped to last in the pack. His non-scoring finish leaves Di Meglio in charge of the world cup standings, five points ahead of Bradley Smith and another seven to Xavier Simeon.
