FP1 leader Niki Tuuli was on fire in Austria, only partly literally when his machine caught fire while charging ahead of the second practice session. The unfortunate incident did not slow the Finnish rider in the slightest, Tuuli going back out on a spare bike and resuming his domination at the top of the timesheets. If he had some challengers in the morning, the gap to the second placed man grew to over six tenths of a second by the time the checkered flag waved the end of FP2.
Mattia Casadei was second best on the hot track, with Bradley Smith back amongst the top three, only one thousandth of a second behind the Italian. Hector Garzo and Xavier Simeon completed the top five.
