2019 Austria Moto2 FP2 Result: Binder Warms Up The Party For KTM

The final chance to grab a Friday headline in the intermediate class came in beautiful conditions at the Red Bull Ring and the home team got some solid airtime. Brad Binder led the way for much of the afternoon and snatched back the lead on his final flying lap but his bike refused to go any further than turn one the next time around. The South African still got to keep the lead and with it an all time record for the Moto2 class around the Austrian track.

Tetsuta Nagashima came within a tenth of top spot, in yet another impressive weekend for the Japanese rider, while Tom Luthi was also due one of those and managed to climb to third. Jorge Navarro is a familiar presence in fourth position, with Enea Bastianini coming leaps and bounds since the morning session to join the top five. Luca Marini in sixth was barely three tenths of a second off the lead, with FP1 leader Augusto Fernandez keeping close in seventh.

Somkiat Chantra, Jorge Martin and Marcel Schrotter rounded out the top ten of the session, with Remy Gardner, Alex Marquez and Lorenzo Baldassarri waiting at the door, only half a second off the lead. However, if rain does decide to make an appearance on Saturday morning, the championship leader might find himself in a spot of bother, in 15th spot on the combined standings. Despite a low key FP2, the likes of Baldassarri, Schrotter, Iker Lecuona and Mattia Pasini are sitting safely on the combined top 14.
