The promise of rain materialised ahead of the first session of the day and for the lightweight class that meant a wet track, slow motion footage of slides and the occasional excursion into damp gravel. While rainfall was not particularly heavy, it did mean that FP2 gave us the final line-up for the two qualifying sessions, leaving riders to concentrate on their wet weather riding.
Despite his worrying stint on the stretcher on Friday, Jaume Masia got straight back into the groove to lead proceedings for the first half of FP3. Andrea Migno picked up the baton for the final half of the session and things looked settled until Tatsuki Suzuki attacked top spot on his final flying lap. The SIC58 rider took the checkered flag at the top of the timesheets, ahead of Migno and Masia.
Gabriel Rodrigo finished three tenths down on the leader, with Friday hero Ai Ogura completing the top five. Makar Yurchenko seemed to enjoy the conditions and made an appearance at the sharp end in sixth position, ahead of Aron Canet, who took a bit of a tumble on his way to seventh. Dennis Foggia in eighth was the final rider within half a second of the leader. Raul Fernandez and Darryn Binder rounded out the top ten but it was not all good news for the duo as they got hit with 12 place grid penalties for irresponsible riding on Friday.
The likes of Tony Arbolino, John McPhee and Niccolo Antonelli just about missed out on the top ten, while Lorenzo Dalla Porta seemed a bit more off the pace in the tricky conditions. Meanwhile Romano Fenati eased his way back into the action after a quick visit to the medical centre for a left ankle issue following yesterday’s fall.
