Although sunny and warm, the leaves invading the Montmelo circuit made for a rather autumnal picture throughout the last session of the day for the intermediate class. There was little room for improvement on the timesheets but Marcel Schrotter spent almost the entire session at the top and was one of the few men to improve on their FP1 times. Fabio Di Giannantonio in second was another of those riders, six hundredths of a second off top spot and two tenths quicker than Xavi Vierge. Marco Bezzecchi in fourth was also within three tenths of the lead, while compatriot Enea Bastianini found some late improvements to join the top five.
Aron Canet was the last rider to post a time within half a second of the leader, while Jorge Navarro finished seventh but not improving enough to also join the provisional top 14 overall. Bo Bendsneyder continues a good run of form in Catalunya with eighth place in FP2 and 11th overall, while Tom Luthi’s ninth place did not secure him a Q2 ticket yet. Sam Lowes rounded out the top ten of the session whilst remaining the fastest man of the day, courtesy of his FP1 time.
Luca Marini dropped to 14th on the timesheets after his fastest laptime got cancelled due to a yellow flag infringement, but his FP1 time keeps him comfortably on the combined top 14, alongside Augusto Fernandez, Jorge Martin, Tetsuta Nagashima, Jake Dixon and Nicolo Bulega. No such luck for Remy Gardner, who slid out at turn 2 in the closing stages of FP2 and could not do any better than 17th.
