Andrea Iannone ended Friday on top of the timesheets at Phillip Island, punching in a fast lap to take the glory at the end of the day. But the Ecstar Suzuki rider had been quick throughout the session, posting a respectable pace on hard tires.
Danilo Petrucci was second fastest on the Pramac Ducati, just ahead of of this morning's fastest rider Maverick Viñales on the Movstar Yamaha. Andrea Dovizioso was fourth quickest on the factory Ducati, just as he had been in FP1.
Cal Crutchlow took fifth spot, but that was the end of his run of luck, the LCR Honda rider suffering a big crash in Turn 1 and suffering a fracture of his right ankle. Crutchlow was immediately flown to Melbourne to have surgery on the ankle.
Crutchlow was not the only faller, though the others were thankfully without injury. Valentino Rossi, Marc Marquez, and Alvaro Bautista, in the factory Ducati team for the weekend, all either fell or ran straight on at Siberia.
