Jerez Moto3 Test Wednesday Times: Garcia Impresses On First Day Of Official Test

Excellent conditions at Jerez mean that the Moto3 riders are also well under the pole record after the first day of the official IRTA test at the Spanish circuit. Estrella Galicia rider Sergio Garcia was fast straight out of the box, setting the fastest time in the first session of the day. Petronas rider John McPhee ended the day in 2nd, setting his best time in the second session in the middle of the day, just six hundredth slower than Garcia.

Ai Ogura put the Honda Team Asia bike into third, a fraction faster than Niccolo Antonelli on the SIC58 Squadra Corse Honda. Hondas had something of a whitewash on day 1, taking the top seven spots, Albert Arenas the first KTM rider for the Aspar team.

Testing continues on Thursday and Friday.

Sepang MotoGP Test Sunday Final Times: Quartararo Secures First Testing Crown of 2020

With rain bringing an early end to testing duties in Sepang, Fabio Quartararo stayed at the top of the timesheets but the gaps remained minuscule. The Frenchman was closely followed by Cal Crutchlow and Alex Rins, while Pecco Bagnaia was lead Ducati ahead of mentor Valentino Rossi – all four riders within two tenths of a second of the leader. Marc Marquez wrapped things up with a small crash at Turn 15 and finished the day 12th on the timesheets, while Maverick Vinales in 18th position was only eighth tenths off his future teammate.

Sepang MotoGP Test Sunday 4pm Times: Quartararo Still Fastest As Riders Try Race Runs

In the heat of the afternoon, the riders who haven't already packed up and gone home are trying race simulations, or at least longer runs. At Yamaha, meanwhile, Maverick Viñales will be getting to test the new holeshot device which has previously been tried by the test team.

There have been no changes in the standings since 2pm. Fabio Quartararo is still fastest, leading a very close field. Maverick Viñales is eight tenths slower than Fabio Quartararo, but he is in eighteenth position. But he is nearly half a second under Valention Rossi's race lap record, and has not pushed for a single fast lap all day.

Sepang MotoGP Test Sunday 2pm Times: Quartararo Still Fastest As Test Winds To A Close

Not much has changed on the last day of the Sepang MotoGP test since noon, despite a flurry of activity on the track. That looks like being the last burst of real activity, as teams start to pack up and head toward the airport. At 2pm, there are only a few riders putting in race simulations in the heat, including Jack Miller, Maverick Viñales and Fabio Quartararo.

There hasn't been much change in the standings since noon either. Fabio Quartararo still leads, ahead of Cal Crutchlow, Alex Rins, and Pecco Bagnaia. Times are incredibly close, thirteen riders within half a second, all six manufacturers inside 0.345 seconds. The test concludes at 6pm this evening.

Sepang MotoGP Test Sunday Noon Times: Quartararo Leads Crutchlow

The final day of the test has started in ideal conditions, with cool track temperatures and almost the entire grid out on track. Fabio Quartararo is once again fastest, dipping ever closer to his pole record set at the race last year. Cal Crutchlow is second, under a tenth behind the Petronas Yamaha rider, and just ahead of Alex Rins on the Suzuki.

Pecco Bagnaia has made a leap up the standings, the Pramac Ducati rider currently fourth quickest, a few hundredths ahead of Valentino Rossi on the factory Yamaha. Danilo Petrucci has improved to sixth, just over a quarter of a second behind Quartararo, while Pol Espargaro is seventh on the KTM. Jack Miller is currently eighth, while Aleix Espargaro makes it all six MotoGP factories inside the top nine, just over a third of a second behind Quartararo.

The field is very close at the moment. There are thirteen riders inside half a second, and seventeen inside of three quarthers of a second.

Sepang Test Saturday Final Times: Quartararo Tops Second Day Of Testing

Times plummeted at the end of the second day of testing at Sepang, the riders using the cooler temperatures and ideal track conditions to chase a quick time at the end of the day. Fabio Quartararo came out on top, setting the quickest time of the day and coming up a quarter of a second short of his own qualifying record. The Petronas Yamaha rider spent almost all of his day on the 2020 Factory Spec Yamaha M1, and set his quickest time on the bike.

Jack Miller ended the day second, after having sat on top of the timesheets for most of the day. The Pramac Ducati rider was seven hundredths slower than Quartararo, and spent his time testing a new Ducati aerodynamics package, though it was more of an evolution of the current package than a radical revolution.

Dani Pedrosa impressed on the KTM, the Spanish test rider setting his fastest ever lap around Sepang, three tenths off the official lap record, and just under a tenth slower than fastest man Quartararo. Third place for Pedrosa demonstrates the value of having such a strong test rider, Pedrosa clearly fast enough still to compete.

Joan Mir was the fastest Suzuki, the Spaniard sixteen hundredths behind Quartararo, and a tenth of a second faster than Franco Morbidelli on the A-Spec Petronas Yamaha, while Maverick Viñales was six hundredths slower on the Monster Energy Yamaha. All three Yamaha riders with Factory Spec machinery spent all of their day on the bike. Alex Rins ended the day as seventh, a quarter of a second behind his Suzuki teammate, and ahead of Pol Espargaro on the KTM. Marc Marquez was ninth fastest, despite a small crash on the Repsol Honda, which left him uninjured. Valentino Rossi rounded out the top ten, putting all four Yamahas inside the top ten, and demoting Aleix Espargaro to eleventh on the Aprilia RS-GP.

Sepang MotoGP Test Saturday 4pm Times: Miller Still Fastest As Action Starts Again

The riders have restarted after taking a long break to avoid the extreme heat of the afternoon. So far, there have been no real changes. Jack Miller still leads, ahead of Joan Mir, Franco Morbidelli, and Maverick Viñales. The riders have two more hours to finish their test program, and with the weather looking like it will cooperate, they should get all their testing done.
