2018 Brno World Superbike Superpole Results: Perfect Qualifying Conditions

Superpole one for World Superbike was contested by ten riders fighting for two spots in Superpole two, with Eugene Laverty and Tati Mercado, based on their qualifying yesterday, the favourites for promotion.

Eugene Laverty opened the session with a 1'59.809 followed by a 1'59.768 and held the only sub-two minute laps before the mid-session break. Xavi Fores was second-quickest before pitting in.

Yonny Hernandez briefly held the top spot with a 1'59.605 until Eugene Laverty took over a third of a second out of him with a 1'59.256 at the flag. With nobody on fast live laps, the long circuit not allowing as many laps as the shorter ones on the calendar, Laverty and Hernandez qualified for Superpole two before everyone's final times were recorded.

Yonny Hernandez started his first ever Superpole two, but it was Michael van der Mark that briefly held the quickest time after one lap, with a 1'59.184 but Jonathan Rea deposed him with a 1'58.881 and everyone pitted in for qualifying tyres.

Jonathan Rea got one fast lap in before the flag came out, a 1'57.885, with Marco Melandri hitting the flag within two hundredths of Rea's time, but it was Tom Sykes who got the best out of the qualifying tyre, recording a pole position record of 1'57.687, two tenths ahead of Rea and Melandri. Alex Lowes, Eugene Laverty and Michael van der Mark made up the second row for today's race.

Tom Sykes's pole position record beat a certain Tom Sykes's 2012 qualifying record from last time the series raced here.
