The final practice session of the intermediate class was a mixed affair when it came to the main contenders in the class. While Joan Mir and teammate Alex Marquez were trading blows at the top of the timesheets early on, Pecco Bagnaia and Miguel Oliveira were struggling to even threaten the top ten.
Mir established himself at the top of the timesheets until Mattia Pasini made his move in the final 15 minutes of the session to attack top position. The Italian took the checker flag six hundredths of a second ahead of Mir. Sam Lowes also made a late charge and the British rider visited the gravel trap in the final moments of the session but having already secured third position with an identical time to Mir’s. Marquez was dropped to fourth but was only seven hundredths of a second from the lead.
A quarter of a second separated the four men at the front from the pursuers, led by Marcel Schrotter. Andrea Locatelli is also staring to be a prominent name at the business end, this time in sixth position, only four thousandths of a second ahead of Luca Marini. Lorenzo Baldassarri’s eighth spot was the final laptime within half a second of Pasini, with Dany Kent and Romano Fenati making an appearance in the final top ten positions – the rookie also popping up in the gravel trap at turn 14 halfway through the session.
Xavi Vierge made some progress from Friday to climb into 12th, while Oliveira ended up 18th and over eight tenths of a second down on the leader as he failed to improve his best time from Friday. Bagnaia only put in ten laps and dropped back to 20th, almost a second off the pace while apparently struggling with pain in his arm.
