2018 Jerez Moto2 Test Thursday Times: Quartararo Fastest On Wet Day, Lowes Quickest Overall

Though the Moto2 riders had the best of the weather on the final day of testing at Jerez, it was still poor enough to slow them down considerably. Only towards the end of the second session was it dry enough for a handful of riders to crack the 1'50 barrier, leaving Fabio Quartararo with the best time on the day.

The gaps behind the Speed Up rider are indicative of just strongly conditions affected the times on Thursday. Domi Aegerter took second place on his crowdfunded Kiefer KTM, the Swiss rider 2.7 seconds slower than Quartararo. Eric Granado was third quickest on the Forward Racing Suter, and nearly half a second ahead of Jules Danilo on the SAG Kalex.

But with the start of the 2018 season just over a week away, riders were wary, many electing not to ride at all. "We won't learn anything if the track isn't fully wet, and why push it when Qatar is just next week?" Sam Lowes asked philosophically.

Lowes had good reason not to take too many risks. The Swiss Innovative Investors rider leaves the Jerez test as fastest overall, the entire grid having set their best times on Wednesday. Lowes led his teammate Iker Lecunoa, while Brad Binder made it a KTM 1-2-3 for the test.
