The final test for the Moto2 and Moto3 class is underway at Jerez, and for the Moto2 bikes, that means they are finally testing with the official Moto2 Honda engines. The weather has been a touch recalcitrant on Tuesday, the track sometimes dry, but light showers blowing in and out to render the track rather tricky.
Rain or shine, Pecco Bagnaia is showing why he is a favorite for the 2018 season, the Sky VR46 rider leading the first day by a quarter of a second. Iker Lecuona is second, the Swiss Innovative Investors rider showing that the KTM is a competitive package in the chassis' second year in the class.
Romano Fenati had a good day, ending in third place just behind Lecuona but ahead of championship favorites Alex Marquez and Lorenzo Baldassarri. Xavi Vierge is sixth, ahead of Luca Marini and Miguel Oliveira, while Sam Lowes was ninth fastest, over half a second behind Bagnaia.
Joan Mir is absent from the test. The Marc VDS rider injured his shoulder riding a motocross bike, and has chosen to sit out the test and wait for the season opener at Qatar in just over a week's time.
The test is scheduled for three days, though the weather forecast suggests that track action will be curtailed, especially on the final day.
