2018 Qatar MotoGP Test Thursday 4pm Times: Dovizioso Leads Marquez After Slow Start

The Qatar MotoGP test got off to a slow start at the Losail International Circuit, with riders letting the first (and hottest) hour of the day go by without taking to the track. It is not a time they will be on track during the race weekend, so they chose to skip it.

After three hours of testing, most of the riders have had some time on track, though five have elected to remain in their garages. Andrea Dovizioso is currently fastest, just a couple of hundredths faster than Marc Marquez, while Dani Pedrosa is currently third. Times are currently around a second off race lap record pace.

Times shortly after 4pm local time:

Greetings all after a few years of lurking due to “extraneous” sporting conditions ;)

Can anyone help explain the difference between lap times? Pole lap speaks for itself, it’s the others that I’m now confused on.

I also know that the fastest lap during a race is recorded differently, along with the fastest all out lap under any circumstances. Given that 4 different times are listed for Qatar in David’s report, I’m wondering how each is categorized now.

BTW- Rins is on the radar, it will be interesting to see how his performance pans out over a season if fully healthy throughout.

It's not well marked in my table. The top time is the 2018 pole lap. Then the fastest lap in the 2018 race. Then the outright records at the track, the circuit record is the record in a race, the best lap is the fastest ever time set in qualifying or practice (which is nearly always a pole time).

set fastest time in Q1, or come through Q1 to take pole in Q2 (any track, not just Losail)?

As always, thank you David.  I’m chomping at the bits for the season proper to commence!!!!
