2017 Valencia Moto3 FP2 Result: Martin Back On Top

After the woolly hats were out in force for the morning sessions, Valencia added barely a handful of degrees to the thermometer, which meant that a few more fallers were added to the list and some gravel decorated parts of the tarmac for most of the session.

After narrowly missing out in FP1, Jorge Martin did not let another opportunity go past and got very close to the fastest lap around the Spanish track in the final ten minutes. The Spaniard couldn’t quite beat the record but fastest man of the day will do.

Aron Canet finally felt at home and after shooting into the lead early in the session, the Valencian boy settled for second, nearly four tenths behind the lead Spaniard. Juanfran Guevara was another of the consistent performers on Friday, another three tenths back.

World champion Joan Mir had some catching up to do after his early morning adventures in the gravel trap and despite another few wobbles for the highlights reel, Mir dropped to fourth position after leading the early part of the session. Ayumu Sasaki continued to enjoy one of his favourite tracks with a well deserved fifth place.

Romano Fenati found a bit more pace compared to the morning session and climbed into sixth, only two thousandths of a second ahead of Gabriel Rodrigo. Fabio Di Giannantonio in eighth position was the final man within a second of Martin, with Philipp Oettl and Enea Bastianini completing the top ten.

Nicolo Bulega and Nakarin Atiratphuvapat were amongst the unlucky few who finished their day with a visit to the medical centre following their off track adventures.
