2017 Brno Moto3 FP2 Result: Mir Masters Drying Track

The afternoon session greeted the riders back from lunch break with an equally wet track, despite the rain easing off and a dry line showing up in the very last minutes.  Tim Georgi got right back to work and picked up where he left off, at the top of the timesheets, but some of the luck deserted him, the German rider crashing out on his fourth lap, while on a red hot time. He rejoined the action in the final ten minutes but failed to improve.

His rivals were left with over a second to recover if they were to take advantage of the wildcard’s mishap, championship leader Joan Mir being the first to make significant improvements to get up to second position and chip away at the gap. He got as close as four tenths of a second before the drying tarmac caused a flurry of fast times to play havoc with the hierarchy.

Georgi’s best lap was only bettered in the final two minutes, when Mir blasted his way to the top, four tenths clear of second-placed Aron Canet and half a second in hand over Adam Norrodin.

A late surge from Andrea Migno saw him climb into fourth spot, with Manuel Pagliani surprising in fifth position.  The two Italians were the final riders within a second of Mir.

Georgi had to settle for sixth, one and a half seconds down on the leader, with Tony Arbolino, Nicolo Bulega and Albert Arenas all within a tenth of the German rider.

Tatsuki Suzuki completed the top ten, with some surprising names further below: John McPhee fifteenth, Marcos Ramirez eighteenth, Fabio di Giannantonio twenty-second and Romano Fenati twenty-fourth.

Jorge Martin once again only did six laps and finished thirty-first.
