2017 Brno Moto2 FP2 Result: Pasini Back On (A Dry) Track

The intermediate class enjoyed the perks of a fully dry session and the usual suspects were springing up like mushrooms after the rain.

Case in point, Morbidelli put this morning’s crash behind him to lead the afternoon session early on by a mere hundredth of a second from compatriot Mattia Pasini. The Italtrans rider didn’t let that settle and got back in front in the final 15 minutes. While Morbidelli was edging ever closer to the lead once again, Pecco Bagnaia made a late jump into second position, splitting the two and making it an Italian top three. The Sky VR46 rider didn’t stop there, taking the lead soon after. Pasini caught the tail of a rapid Miguel Oliveira in the final minutes of the session and made the best of it to snatch back top position in the session.

Meanwhile, Xavi Vierge left it late but made the jump into third position, three tenths down on the leader. Oliveira also improved significantly on his final few laps and finished the session fourth, four tenths slower than Pasini’s fastest time.

Sandro Cortese proved that he returned from the summer holiday re-energized and managed to snatch a fifth spot, only three hundredths of a second ahead of the championship leader, who happened to be the final rider within half a second of Pasini.

Luca Marini showed steady improvement in seventh place, in front of Jorge Navarro and Dominique Aegerter, with Tom Luthi completing the top ten, eighth tenths down on the leader. As high as third at one point, Isaac Viñales dropped back to eleventh and Corsi could only managed twelfth in the dry after getting so close to leading in the wet FP1.

Alex Marquez also appeared to struggle on what is normally one of his best tracks, the Spaniard finishing thirteenth, while Takaaki Nakagami followed up on an average morning with an average afternoon in seventeenth position.
