2017 Barcelona Moto3 FP2 Result: Canet Makes A Late Charge

The sun was a welcome sight for the lightweight class, so much so it was honoured with some wheelies out of the pitlane. In a deja-vu from this morning, Romano Fenati and Joan Mir looked to be the headline acts in the first part of the session, before some more or less unusual names meddled.

Aron Canet was not very bothered about the track time missed in FP1, the Spaniard going up into third straight away, then missing some more time while the team fixed a cracked screen that found itself a bit too close to his helmet. A few cancelled laps didn’t cause trouble either, the Estrella Galicia rider topping the session after the checkered flag came out.

Fenati kept second position, with a late lap from Mir seeing the championship leader climbing into third. Nicolo Bulega was one of the riders to put in most laps once again, being repaid with a fourth spot in the afternoon session and last rider within half a second of Canet.

It was a good FP2 for Mugello winner Andrea Migno, the Italian following his teammate into fifth position, in front of Jorge Martin. Enea Bastianini fired in a red hot lap out of nowhere, after skipping the whole of FP1 and arguably feeling like he missed the first six races altogether, the Italian dropping into a reasonable seventh place by the end of the session.

Tatsuki Suzuki, Bo Bendsneyder and Marco Bezzecchi were also a pleasant surprise inside the top ten, ahead of the likes of Fabio Di Giannantonio who was fourtheenth, John McPhee nineteenth or Juanfran Guevara twenty-third.

UPDATE: Tony Arbolino has been penalized with 12 grid positions for riding slowly in more than 3 sectors in excess of 110% limit of his fastest sectors during FP2.
