2017 Le Mans Moto3 FP2 Result: Martin Rains On Kent’s Parade

While the sun seemed to break through the clouds towards the end of FP1 sessions, Le Mans changed its mind at the last minute and a downpour hit the circuit before the lightweight class took to the track for the second time today.

Eleven degrees air temperature and a truly soaked track made for some cautious first few laps for the Moto3 riders. Wildcard Danny Kent showed off his Moto3 expertise to grab the lead midway through the session and he looked on course to keep it before crashing out in the final minutes.

Jorge Martin didn’t need any sort of invitation to finally crash that party and become the first rider into the 1:52s, with over half a second in hand on Kent and the rest of the pursuers.

Niccolo Antonelli was another early leader that eventually had to settle for third position, closely followed by Japanese rider Tatsuki Suzuki. Fabio di Giannantonio in fifth was the last rider to post a time within a second of Jorge Martin, compatriot Nicolo Bulega  in sixth spot, followed by impressive rides by Marcos Ramirez and Marco Bezzecchi.

While Joan Mir briefly led the session, Aron Canet and Romano Fenato did not feature much in the proceedings and all three recent race winners finished outside of the top ten.

Title contender John McPhee continued to struggle in twenty-fourth place before crashing in turn twelve on his final lap.
