Alex Marquez put another Marquez at the top of the timesheet Friday with a 2'10.601 to lead FP2 by three-tenths of a second. Alex, younger brother of MotoGP's Marc, led much of FP2 and pushed championship leader Franco Morbidelli into second, just in front of Marcel Schrotter (3rd) at the Circuit of the Americas near Austin, Texas.
Miguel Oliveira, the leader of FP1, seemed primed for a mediocre session when he pulled out a fast lap at the end to leap into fourth and bump Thomas Luthi (5th) down a spot in the process. Mattia Passini, a consistent top-10 in both sessions, finished in sixth just in front of Hafizh Syahrin (7th). Fabio Quartararo, who crashed out of the last race in Argentina, managed eighth. Ricard Cardus (10th) and Takaaki Nakagami (10th) completed the lead pack.
Just as impressive as Marquez's fast lap was his consistency in FP2. The Spanish rider reeled off five laps in the 2'10s, far more than any other Moto2 rider in the session.
