2017 Austin MotoGP Moto2 FP1 Result: Oliveira Saves His Best For Last

Miguel Oliveira grabbed the top spot with a fast final lap Friday during FP1 at the Circuit of the Americas Friday near Austin, Texas. Oliveira’s 2’11.606 dropped Franco Morbidelli into second, a mere three-hundredths back. Morbidelli, who has won the first two races of 2017, led for much of latter half of the first practice.

Thomas Luthi, on the podium for the season's first two contests, also saved his best for the session's end with a 2'11.641 that jumped him into third, just in front of Alex Marquez. The younger brother of current MotoGP World Champion Marc Marquez, climbed to the top of the timesheet for much of practice only to be dropped in the order as session wore on.

Mattia Passini, fifth fastest, finished two-tenths off the top spot. Indeed the top eight riders finished the first practice within half a second of each other.

David l know you don't single out individuals for analysis for the most part but enquiring minds want to know...why is Yonny Hernandez so far down on the time sheets. He was moving toward to sharp end in MotoGp before circumstances forced him out. So what gives?
