2017 Qatar Moto2 Test Final Times: Morbidelli Fastest On Sunday, Nakagami Quickest Overall

Franco Morbidelli and Taka Nakagami cemented their status as Moto2 front runners at the Qatar Moto2 test, Morbidelli ending the final day of testing as fastest, Nakagami leaving Qatar as fastest rider overall.

Though the Moto2 class didn't suffer as much with the wind as the Moto3 machines, the intermediate class had the worst of the weather on Sunday. Rain started falling at the end of the final Moto3 session, causing the final Moto2 session to be canceled. That left Morbidelli as fastest on the Marc VDS Kalex, ahead of Miguel Oliveira on the KTM, and Tom Luthi on the Interwetten Kalex. Nobody improved their time on the final day of the test, Saturday having had the best of the weather.

Taka Nakagami was quickest over all three days, though his advantage over Morbidelli was small. Morbidelli's teammate Alex Marquez ended as third quickest overall, ahead of Hafizh Syahrin and Miguel Oliveira.

With testing over, the teams head back to their hotels for a few days of rest before the season starts in earnest. On Thursday, at 6pm local time, the Moto3 riders take to the track for the first session of free practice, and the 2017 MotoGP season will be underway at last.

Incredibly stacked Moto2 field this year especially once a few of the rookies get a couple of races under their belts.   Though I suspect another long year for Kent.

David,

Do you know why Julian Simon was racing instead of Iker Lacuona? One time test or is he replacing Iker for some reason?

Lecuona fell and broke his collarbone at the Moto2 test in Jerez. Julian Simon is stepping in for him until he is fit again.
