2016 Sachsenring Moto3 FP1 Result: Fenati Leads Binder

Riding in weather that seemed to be preparing us for winter holiday instead, the Moto3 grid was admirably tame, with only a handful of minor crashes as rain threatened to show up but didn’t really do so.

Romano Fenati and Enea Bastianini switched positions at the top for much of the session, the Sky rider grabbing the lead before the mid-session recess. Once action was resumed, the Italian armada made a comeback, taking over the top 6, eventually separated by Binder, Martin and Bendsneyder.

Championship leader Brad Binder left it late to make his appearance at the top, finishing in second place, in front of Bastianini. Being hindered by a mechanical problem early in the session, Jorge Martin posted a top-six-worthy time in the final ten minutes, before bookending his morning with some more bike problems and finally a fourth position. He was followed by rookie revelation Bo Bendsneyder who seems to continue his good run in Germany as well.

Still recovering from injury, current championship runner-up Jorge Navarro took it easy in the morning session, finishing in twenty-fourth position, his teammate five places behind him. Homeboy Philipp Oettl mixed it up at the front as practice started, falling back to twelfth following a crash in turn 1.
