2016 Qatar Moto3 Test Times, Day 3: Antonelli Leads Loi as Testing Closes

Niccolo Antonelli leaves the final preseason test for the Moto3 class as the fastest rider, smashing the existing pole record at Qatar by nearly four tenths of a second. Livio Loi, who just crept under the lap record on Saturday, improved his time again on Sunday, but ended up over two tenths behind Antonelli, after a very strong showing during testing.

Fabio Quartararo was the fastest of the KTMs, the Frenchman setting the third quickest time of the day, finishing just ahead of Jorge Navarro, Brad Binder and Nicolo Bulega. The gaps between Loi in second and Bulega in sixth were small, just fifteen hundredths between them. Bulega was the first and most impressive of an outstanding rookie contingent, the Italian finishing ahead of fellow newcomers Aron Canet in seventh and Joan Mir in ninth. With three Moto3 rookies in the top top ten, 2016 promises to be an outstanding year for the Moto3 class.

Preseason testing is now completed for all three classes. The riders and teams now have a couple of days off, before reassembling for media duties on Wednesday, followed by track action resuming on Thursday, when things get serious. The first race of the year is on Sunday, at Qatar.

I never expected to see Livio Loi come alive like this. His win in the rain must have changed him for the better and I'm happy to see it. I'm hoping he will fight for victories this year.
