2015 Phillip Island Moto2 Race Result: Meet The Next In Line

Results Below:

Moto2 rookie Alex Rins rode a near-flawless race to take the win at the Phillip Island circuit Sunday and cement his place as the rider to watch next year. Rins' win by six seconds over second-place Sam Lowes, pushed the Spaniard to runner-up status in the championship with two races remaining. Lorenzo Baldassarri took the final podium spot, another four seconds back.

Takaaki Nakagami continued his strong weekend with fourth, followed by Xavier Simeon (5th). Luis Salom took fifth, just in front of world champion-elect Johann Zarco. Zarco, who won the season's championship last week at Motegi when Tito Rabat withdrew due to injuries, finished a full 20 seconds behind Rins. Mika Kallio (8th) crossed the line three-seconds in front of Alex Marquez (9th). Randy Krummenacher completed the top 10.

Current world champion Tito Rabat withdrew from the race following FP2.

It is precisely the same as the president of the USA. The outgoing president remains in power from after the election in November until the new one is sworn in on 20th January. Until that point, the outgoing president is still referred to as the president, and the newly elected president is referred to as the president elect.

So it is in racing. Tito Rabat remains champion for the remaining two races, until the end of the season. The season ends on Sunday night at Valencia, at which point Johann Zarco becomes the reigning champion. Until Sunday night, Zarco is the champion elect.
