2015 Phillip Island Moto2 QP Result: A Rookie Rules The Roost

By Mike Lewis | Sat, 17/10/2015 - 06:01

Results Below:

Alex Rins continued his strong form to take pole at the Phillip Island track Saturday. The Moto2 rookie stayed near the top of the timesheet nearly every session and led the majority of qualifying. Axel Pons grabbed a surprising second spot on the grid. Sam Lowes held on for the final spot in the front row despite a heavy, high-side crash during qualifying.

Thomas Luthi took the top spot on the second row followed by Mike Kallio (5th) who found his pace late in the session. Takaaki Nakagami (6th) continued his strong form in Australia, good for the final spot on the second row. And 2015 champion Johann Zarco -- he was crowned at Motego last week -- held the first spot of the third row, just in front of Sandro Cortese (8th) and Lorenzo Baldassaeri (9th).

Julian Simon completed the top 10. An injured Tito Rabat, who participated in FP1 and FP2, withdrew from the race before FP3.
