Qatar 2 MotoGP Test Wednesday Final Times: Miller Smashes Lap Record

Lap records are tumbling at the end of the first day of the second Qatar test. After Fabio Quartararo smashed Marc Marquez' outright lap record of 1'53.380 by over a tenth of a second, Jack Miller took another eight hundredths off that, going just shy of two tenths faster than Marquez did during the race weekend in 2019. It is a testament to the much improved conditions.

Miller and the factory Ducati lead, ahead of the Monster Energy Yamaha pairing of Fabio Quartararo and Maverick Viñales, though Viñales is a third of a second slower than Jack Miller. Johann Zarco put the Pramac Ducati into fourth place, with the exact same time as Pol Espargaro on the Repsol Honda.

Aleix Espargaro ended the in sixth on the Aprilia, just ahead of the Suzuki pairing of Joan Mir and Alex Rins. Rins was the last rider to get within a second of Jack Miller. Pecco Bagnaia was ninth quickest on the first day, just over a second slower than his factory Ducati teammate, and just ahead of Franco Morbidelli on the Petronas Yamaha.

Testing resumes on Thursday, and finishes on Friday.

At the end of the penultimate hour of the test, Jack Miller still leads the way, though he is joined in the 1'53s by Pol Espargaro, Johann Zarco and Aleix Expargaro. The top of the timesheet has tightened up a fair bit, as riders start to try out their single lap pace. There are now nine riders in half a second, and twelve riders within nine tenths of a second.

There is one more hour of the test before they wind up for the day.

Qatar 2 MotoGP Test Wednesday 6pm Times: Pol Espargaro Takes Over At The Top Again

It is safe to say that Pol Espargaro is up to speed on the Repsol Honda RC213V already, the Spaniard leading the timesheets at 6pm local time. Espargaro is a quarter of a second faster than Franco Morbidelli and Fabio Quartararo, while Joan Mir is fourth quickest on the Suzuki.

There have been a number of fallers, though so far without incident. Iker Lecuona got caught out by Qatar's infamous Turn 2. Maverick Viñales fell at Turn 1, while Takaaki Nakagami has also had an off. No serious injuries have been reported.

Qatar 2 MotoGP Test Wednesday 5pm Times: Yamahas Lead As Pace Hots Up

As sunset approaches, the pace is starting to hot up on the first day of the final Qatar test. The Yamahas have taken over at the top, Fabio Quartararo leading the way ahead of Franco Morbidelli, while Pol Espargaro on the Honda is stopping Maverick Viñales from making it three Yamahas at the top. Viñales has been spending his time doing a lot of practice starts, something that was a weakness for the Spaniard in recent years.

The test concludes at 9pm local time.

Qatar 2 MotoGP Test Wednesday 4pm Times: Espargaro Brothers On Top

Special red and white speedblock Yamaha livery for Cal Crutchlow at the Qatar test, celebrating 60 years of racing for the Japanese manufacturer

Testing is underway again for the second part of the MotoGP test at Qatar. With conditions much better than during the shakedown test over the weekend, more riders are off and up to speed early.

Two hours into the test, the Espargaro brothers lead the way, Aleix on the Aprilia just eking ahead of Pol on the Honda. Suzuki's Joan Mir is currently third, while Valentino Rossi is currently fastest Yamaha, ahead of Alex Rins.

Yamaha are celebrating their 60th anniversary in racing with a special livery for test rider Cal Crutchlow, a throwback to their original red and white colors with a speedblock design. No doubt this livery will make a reappearance at a race later in the season, should Crutchlow race as a wildcard.

Qatar 1 MotoGP Test Sunday Final Times: Quartararo Tops Final Day Of First Qatar Test

Fabio Quartararo has ended the first Qatar MotoGP test on top of the timesheets. The Monster Energy Yamaha rider was the only rider to crack into the 1'53s, ending the day half a second behind Marc Marquez' outright lap record at the Losail International Circuit.

Jack Miller was second fastest on the test, the factory Ducati rider having spent most of the day evaluating Ducati's new aero package. Aleix Espargaro was third fastest on the 2021 Aprilia RS-GP, a thousandth of a second ahead of Franco Morbidelli on the 2019-spec Yamaha M1.

Honda test rider Stefan Bradl closed the second day in fifth, just over a quarter of asecond slower than Quartararo, and ahead of Pramac Ducati's Johann Zarco. Maverick Viñales was seventh quickest, making it three Yamahas inside the top seven, while Joan Mir was first Suzuki home.

The field is incredibly tight. The first thirteen riders are within three quarters of a second, Alex Marquez in fourteenth the first rider over a second slower than Quartararo.

The riders now have to days off, while their engineers chew over the data and work on improvements for the second Qatar test, which starts on Wednesday.

Qatar 1 MotoGP Test Sunday 6pm Times: Hondas Lead The Way

Stefan Bradl has been joined by his Repsol Honda teammate Pol Espargaro at the top of the timesheets at 6pm on the second day of the Qatar MotoGP test. The Spaniard is quickly getting up to speed on the RC213V, and just a few thousandths of a second slower than the HRC test rider.

Aleix Espargaro is a couple of hundredths behind his brother, the Aprilia RS-GP proving itself to be fast, while Maverick Viñales is posting impressive long runs on the factory Yamaha. Pecco Bagnaia is the first of the Ducatis, a tenth faster than reigning MotoGP champion Joan Mir, the Suzuki rider making it five different manufacturers in the top six. Miguel Oliveira is top KTM rider in ninth, putting all six factories in the top nine.
