2015 Sepang World Supersport Race Results: Rain Flags, Still No Rain

Kenan Sofuoglu leads the title chase by twenty points from Jules Cluzel going into this fourteen lap race.

Kenan Sofuoglu led into turn one but went in too hot, ran wide and ended up in sixth place. Jules Cluzel led PJ Jacobsen and Kyle Smith but Jacobsen took the lead shortly after. On the second lap, Lorenzo Zanetti took third place from Smith and Kenan Sofuoglu took fourth shortly after.

As the rain flags came out on lap three, Kenan Sofuoglu took third place from a battling Lorenzo Zanetti. The rain, once again, stayed away.

Jacobsen and Cluzel saw their lead disappear as Sofuoglu bought them on the fifth lap, bringing Zanetti with him. At half race distance, Sofuoglu tried a pass on Cluzel, but couldn't hold onto the second place as Cluzel took it back off him.

Ten laps in, an inseparable Jacobsen and Cluzel finally broke free from Sofuoglu and Zanetti and started building a gap as Zanetti closed in on Sofuoglu. Zanetti caught Sofuoglu on the penultimate lap as Cluzel tried to find a way past Jacobsen on turn fifteen, sweeping round for a faster exit, but Jacobsen held the lead.

On the last lap, Zanetti sneaked past Sofuoglu, but Sofuoglu clawed third back. Jacobsen held enough of a gap from Cluzel, having better straight line speed where it mattered and for both pairs of riders, it would come down to the last corner.

PJ Jacobsen, expecting Cluzel to try the sweeping line again, went for the same plan, only to have Cluzel sneak through in the inside as he didn't cover the apex. Cluzel closed the throttle slightly exiting the corner in an attempt to slow Jacobsen down, knowing he'd have him by the line if he couldn't disrupt him, but Jacobsen was aiming to pass already and didn't get slowed by Cluzel.

PJ Jacobsen won his first World Supersport race, the first American victory in the class, by nine hundredths of a second. Since switching to the Honda, he has come third, second and first.

Jules Cluzel was a little angry at being outplayed by Jacobsen, but had calmed down by Parc Fermé, seeing Lorenzo Zanetti joining him, having passed Kenan Sofuoglu on the last corner. Sofuoglu's lead in the championship was reduced to thirteen points from Cluzel and twenty-eight from Jacobsen.
