2015 Sepang World Supersport Qualifying Results: Tactics Don't Always Pay Off

World Supersport Qualifying brought a few surprises inclusing an interesting tactical play borrowed from Marc Marquez.

PJ Jacobsen set a blistering laptime of 2'08.244 halfway through the session that was good enough for pole position, if not the outright record. Jacobsen's first pole continues his good form on the Honda, putting him in the mix for a possible win. Kenan Sofuoglu put aside his personal tragedy and qualified in second place after pushing hard all session to try to beat Jacobsen's time.

Jules Cluzel had a plan, however, to push Sofuoglu further down the grid by towing Gino Rea behind him, gifting him a fast lap as a buffer between himself and Sofuoglu, but the tactic didn't work beyond promoting Rea to sixth on the grid behind Robbie Rolfo and Lorenzo Zanetti. Cluzel blamed his third place on a lack of good tyres when they mattered instead of a last minute failed attempt to throw speedbumps Sofuoglu's way.

Kyle Smith was seventh quickest, in spite of a crash.

Honda and MV are the best bikes in WSS, if Yamaha enters a proper effort Kawasaki will be pushed down to the fourth best bike on the grid. Good on PJ, he seems like a great guy, but I think the most deserving guy for a top ride in WSBK is sitting in P2.
