2015 Misano World Supersport Race Results: Surmounted

Kenan Sofuoglu leads the championship by 40 points going into this race, with only four rounds left after this weekend, but MV Agusta turned up with a new paint job so who knows how Jules Cluzel's fortune can change?

Kenan Sofuoglu led into turn one, stealing first place from pole sitter Jules Cluzel. Cluzel's teammate Lorenzo Zanetti was in third and PJ Jacobsen entered turn one in fourth place, but was punted out of his place by Fabio Menghi. Cluzel then set about Sofuoglu and passed him, dragging Zanetti with him and Jacobsen, having fought back to fourth then took third place off Sofuoglu. Gino Rea in fifth place saw an opportunity and took Sofuoglu's place aggressively and the pair locked into a fairing-bashing duel for a few corners, although Sofuoglu eventually won that battle.

On the third lap, PJ Jacobsen, having set the fastest lap, passed Lorenzo Zanetti for second place and set his sights on Jules Cluzel.

At half race distance, Jules Cluzel led by a second from PJ Jacobsen with Kenan Sofuoglu forcing past Lorenzo Zanetti for third almost three seconds further back. Gino Rea in firth place had six riders chomping at the bit behind him as he led the mob ten seconds off the back of Zanetti.

Lorenzo Zanetti, however, was an Italian on an Italian bike in Italy and he smelled a podium. Kenan Sofuoglu was all that stood between him and glory, and while the race for first and second was all but settled, third place was up for grabs. Zanetti took third place back with two laps to go, but Sofuoglu put a very tight pass in and turned to a defensive posture, knowing that second was not possible.

On the last lap, with Cluzel and Jacobsen clear, Sofuoglu went into turn four a little too fast and Zanetti behind him realised they were overcooking it and wobbled hard going into the corner. Sofuoglu, however, was committed to his pace and lost the front mid-corner and slid off the track. Zanetti avoided the crash and cleared off in third place, while Sofuoglu claimed back on board, watched the Gino Rea freight train charge past and remounted in eleventh place.

Jules Cluzel won convincingly with PJ Jacobsen in a comfortable second place a second and a half back. Lorenzo Zanetti took a happy, lonely third place while Gino Rea took fourth ahead of Alex Baldolini who started from the back of the grid. Kyle Smith didn't start the race.

Kenan Sofuoglu started the race with a forty point lead over Jules Cluzel and left with only twenty. With four rounds left. An unsurmountable lead was surmounted.

Twenty points also means that if Cluzel wins every remaining race, all four of them, he's the champion, no matter what Sofuoglu does.
