@Seven4nineR This is, what, De Puniet's third test on the bike? Let's give him a minute before we start comparing his times to the guy who has a full season on the same bike. Additionally, it was a similar situation for Lowes at this test last year and I think we can agree that a retirement in race one, 13th in race two, and 11th in the championship is not what we wished for him.
David's recent reminder rings all too clear:
The Suzukis made a very strong impression both at the first test and the first race, Eugene Laverty winning one race and being unlucky not to get a podium in the second, and Alex Lowes showed promise despite a broken foot. But come the next race at Aragon, the Suzukis were much further back again. They would not have another weekend as strong as at Phillip Island all year.
Sadly, I think it is going to be a long season for the Honda and Suzuki-mounted riders. But I hope I'm wrong.

Don't forget...
That RdP had a heavy crash yesterday. Highsiding at turn 11, no less. He's presumably hurting a fair bit and consequently a bit off the pace today. I'm thinking he should go well, though. Once he gets his head around the finer points of the GSX-R in World Superbike trim. He has a few days to rest his sore bits before battle commences on Friday.

They are racing this weekend, it would be stupid for rdp to go balls to the wall after hurting himself and risk wrecking the first round for his team. Race day is just around the corner.
Canepa
Well, I should have read these results before responding on the results of the first day. Canepa has taken that 1190RX another big step forward! Only 1,1 seconds down on top spot, very impressive. That bike seems to be a whole lot quicker than it appeared last year. Must have gained some horsepower too, I guess.
a couple things
1) Canepa is the highest level rider, talent-wise, that's been on the EBR. That was proven when ol' Pegram came in & scored points at Laguna whereas Yates & May couldn't sniff 15th all season.
2) doesn't look like Canepa is using the perimeter brake setup now. Thats EBR's proprietary, notoriously bad braking system, which is widely criticized in racing circles.
Rider factor
To your first point, that's indeed what I meant when I said that the EBR seems to be a lot quicker than it appeared to be last year, when Aaron Yates and Geoff May were riding it. See my comment under the first day results. (Maybe I should have written 'appears to be quicker than it seemed to be'.)
About your second point, I did not know that. That may very well help too, yes. In 2008 I've ridden the (in concept very similar) Buell 1125R on a racetrack and the behaviour under braking was the really weak point, especially what happened when you were releasing the brake during corner entry. It was difficult to keep the bike on the intended line. Part of the problem may also have been the throttle-based back-torque limiter, which kept idle rpm (so to speak) very high under braking. The handling was amazingly good though, very light and still neutral and stable. So the chassis seems to have real potential to me.
Tires
Nice to see it so tight at the top and with good variety of machinery (and a big shame Giugliano won't be there as he's been very fast too. Hopefully they can find a suitable replacement for the weekend *cough, cough, Bayliss, cough cough*). Super impressed with Torres and Canepa and even Terol.
Is there any word on tires this year, especially for WSS, as the forecast for raceday is currently a sunny 32 degrees C. Would hate to see the Australian crowd ripped off again with short races.

Bummer he is out. Hospital assessment = two low back vertebrae fractures. Dr Costa assessment = "the facial hair too much Biaggi, try to hard for mustache is problem to crashing."
