2014 Magny-Cours World Supersport Qualifying: Quick Conditions

Qualifying for the penultimate World Supersport race finally saw Cal Crutchlow's 2009 qualifying lap bettered.

Jules Cluzel took a dominant pole position, almost half a second quicker than the rest of the field and was the first of two Frenchmen on the front row. Wild card Lucas Mahias, current French Supersport champion having won all twelve races in the series, earned a hard fought second place ahead of Kenan Sofuoglu. World Supersport champion Michael van der Mark heads up the second row ahead of Roberto Tamburini and PJ Jacobsen.

Nice to see a wildcard running at the front so far in a world series.
It's also nice to see considering Mahias has run the few wildcards for the avant garde prototype Transfiormers in Moto2 if i recall correctly, puts the performance of that bike in a better perspective.

Indeed very impressive performance of Mahias! I must admit I didn't even know him. Surely he will be a regular contender next year??
And the Yamaha YZF-R6 is still a good race bike, it appears. I have a feeling anyway that the Honda CBR600RR is performing above its real status, thanks to a very well-oiled team and an excellent rider. (But that's not an unusual phenomenon in production-based racing; the technical capabilities of the team often seem to have more impact than the type of bike.)
