Alex Rins has taken his first victory for the season following a fierce Moto3 battle at Silverstone. The fight for the lead contained as many as 15 riders in the early running and the mixture of Championship contenders and rookies with nothing to lose made it a real nail-biting exhibition of 'controlled' aggression. With six laps remaining the quartet of Alex Rins, Alex Marquez, Enea Bastianini and Miguel Oliveira managed to break away from the densely populated melee. They fought it out over the closing laps and it was Rins who positioned himself perfectly on the run to the line to edge out his team mate Marquez by a microscopic eleven thousandths of a second. Ever-impressive 16 year old rookie Bastianini claimed the final podium place ahead of Oliveira.
The chasing pack of twelve riders eventually finished some four seconds behind the leaders and was headed by Czech rider Jakub Kornfeil, the Calvo rider beat home a disappointed Jack Miller. The Australian was caught out when the front four made their move and he was unable to respond to the increase in pace. As a result his Championship lead is now cut to 13 points to Marquez. Italian rider Niccolo Antonelli claimed seventh place ahead of last round's winner Alexis Masbou. Home town rider Danny Kent crossed the line in ninth place ahead of his team mate Niklas Ajo who rounded out the top ten.
