2014 Sachsenring Moto2 Race Result: Two-Horse Race In Saxony

Full Recap and Results Below:

After taking his first ever pole position the day before Dominique Aegerter has followed up and claimed his first ever Moto2 victory during the German Grand Prix at Sachsenring. The Swiss rider was latched onto the rear wheel of Marc VDS rider Mika Kallio for the majority of the race as the two gapped the field with ease from the opening laps. Aegerter however took the lead with four laps remaining and tried to push ahead only for Kallio to fight back on the penultimate lap. Aegerter had the last laugh however, making a brave move at the bottom of the 'waterfall' under heavy braking and then managed to hold the Finnish veteran off across the line. Underlining his desperation Aegerter managed to set his fastest lap time of the race on the decisive final lap.

Simone Corsi made up for his crash in Assen last time out and took the final podium position some 10 seconds behind the leaders after managing to slide past Tito Rabat at the final corner. The Roman rider was a thorn in the Championship leaders side throughout the race and Rabat's frustrating fourth place finish sees his Championship lead cut to 19 points from his team mate Kallio. Maverick Vinales put in a fine ride to cross the line in fifth place ahead of fellow impressive rookie rider Franco Morbidelli who diced spiritedly with Rabat and Corsi in the early stages.

Randy Krummenacher and Mattia Pasini claimed seventh and eight places respectively while Tom Luthi made it three Swiss riders in the top nine. Belgian rider Xavier Simeon rounded out the top 10 but would be disappointed after claiming pole position and a podium at the Sachsenring last year. Jordi Torres who claimed his maiden victory in the same race last year crashed out of third place early on with a vicious high side at turn eight while Lorenzo Baldassari crashed out of eighth place on lap five.
